J&K IIT, IIM to not have special reservations for locals
Jammu, 4 December: The Finance Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Dr. Haseeb Drabu, in a press conference at the Rail Head Complex today said that there would not be any special reservations for students belonging to J&K.
Replying to a question, after the Press Conference on Cabinet Decisions on some policies, Dr. Drabu elaborated that the government while welcoming the centre’s decision on and IIT and IIM for Jammu and Kashmir, did try to get a special reservation in the two institutions for the local students. However, he explained, that IITs have a mode of operation and the special consideration was principally against the recruitment practices of the premier institue.
Further negating the possibility of reservation in Indian Institute of Management, Dr. Drabu said that the government is trying to get some reservation in the J&K IIM, but that also is a very thin possibility.
The Finance Minister said that getting a reservation was definitely on the top of our minds but even if that has not materialized, we can be sure that the premier institutes for engineering and management would bring about a cultural change in the state. He said that the institutes will see educators of the highest repute in the country to the state and that would help the state in the longer term.
This, however, does not reflect on the already available quota for J&K students in the Engineering and Management premier institutes coming to the state.
