After the political scoop of the BJP’s Hindu Chief Minister pitch in the state of Jammu-Kashmir, sources have now told Republic TV that Kashmiri leader Sajjad Gani Lone has met with former Jammu-Kashmir Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu at a top hotel in New Delhi on Wednesday.
As per sources, Drabu flew down especially for the meeting in Delhi, making the speculations strong about the new government formation in Jammu-Kashmir. Republic TV has learnt from sources that Sajjad Lone is a front-runner for the Chief Ministerial race in Jammu-Kashmir as a consensus candidate between the BJP and dissenting PDP MLAs.
As told by the sources, both the leaders are understood to have discussed the political fall out of the revolt within PDP camp and it’s impact on the political landscape of the state.
Republic has learnt that both leaders also discussed the statements of various PDP MLAs regarding their unwillingness to hold elections afresh and endorsed the view that fresh elections would mean betraying the public mandate who had voted them for six years. Another PDP MLC was also present in the meeting, told the sources.
Earlier in the day, sources told Republic TV that the Bharatiya Janata Party is in touch with dissenting People Democratic Front (PDP) MLAs, and is pitching for a Hindu Chief Minister.
Sources told Republic TV that BJP’s J-K leadership has conveyed to its cadre that they will form an alliance , only if its Hindu CM pitch is agreed upon. As per sources, 14 PDP MLAs have expressed dissent from Mehbooba Mufti’s leadership and are ready to change sides.
Notably, the state of Jammu-Kashmir has never had a Hindu Chief Minister.
The Mehbooba Mufti-led government collapsed on June 19 as the BJP withdrew its support. Governor’s rule has since been imposed in the state.
