J&K National Highway closed amid landlides


Several passengers had a narrow escape after heavy rain in the region triggered landslides and buried some vehicles on the Jammu Srinagar National Highway. At several places between Banihal and Peera sectors of the Highway, the heavy rain accelerated the risk for the vehicles, due to the landslides occurrence. The police officials said that the landslides resulted in closure of the highway today.

The landslides took place at Gungroo, Panthal, Khoni Nallah, Seri Karole and Peera on the highway and sliding of rocks and stones from mountain tops in other stretches of the highway were also reported.

Meanwhile, three vehicles were partially buries under the landslides at Ramsoo and Seri, however, the passengers escaped narrowly without any injuries. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has started clearance of landslides on the highway stretches in these places but rains are making the task difficult and as per reports, the operation to clear the highway is on.

Due to the closure of the highway, over 200 vehicles are stranded at various places, told officials.
