Srinagar, Jan 9: Government on Tuesday said that there is no such proposal for providing sugar to Above Poverty Line (NPHH) category.
In a written reply to the legislator Abdul Majid Padder whether it was a fact that sugar was not provided to the APL families in the state, , Minister Incharge Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs responded in affirmative.
“The government of India, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Department has scrapped the subsidy on PDS sugar from April 2017. The matter was placed before the state Cabinet and accordingly the state cabinet vide its decision No. 75/5/2017 dated 07/06/2017 directed the department of FCS&CA to provide PDS sugar to PHH (BPL) category only”, the MoS according to GNS said in its reply.
There is no such proposal with the government for providing of sugar to NPHH category, he added. (GNS)
