Srinagar, March 5: A well-known photojournalist of Kashmir, Javed Dar has bagged ‘photographer of the year award’ in professional category organised by ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The photo-competition was organised under the theme of ‘Environment and Climate Change’. The award included cash prize of 1lac rupees, medal and citation.
Dar hailing from South Kashmir’s Islamabad district started his career from local daily ‘Kashmir Images’ in 2003 before moving to ‘tehelka’ magazine. In 2006, Dar was employed by China’s government news agency ‘Xinhuaand is still continuing with it.
Dar’s work has published in international broadsheets like ‘Wall street Journal’, ‘Global Times’, ‘Guardian’ and ‘China Daily’. In 2013, his picture was selected as the ‘picture of the year’ among 30 selected pictures by Time Blog Magazine. He has also a book ‘Garden and Graves’ along with Suvir Koul to his credit.
