J&K police prepares for peaceful polls, to round up miscreants in run up to elections
In the wake of boycott calls by the separatist groups, the Jammu and Kashmir police, and the state authorities have come up with a elaborate plan to manage the elections peacefully, and to ensure that miscreants, and separatist outfits are not able to disturb the election process. It is also being apprehended that terror outfits will try to mar the conduct of elections as they would want the voting percentage to be as less as possible to please their masters across the border. The recent border firing incidents were also meant to push insurgents from across the border to ensure that terror operatives could disturb the poll process.
The police to foil the plans of the subversives has prepared a detailed list of miscreants, subversives, and over-ground workers affiliated to separatist groups, and it is in the process of rounding up the bad characters during the poll period. There is a large number anti-social elements in Kashmir and Jammu province who have been involved in anti-social activities and are likely to vitiate the elections as well. To prevent this from happening the elements with criminal track record have been categorised on the basis of their threat potential, and they would be treated as per their conduct during the elections. Sources tell that a message has already reached these elements, and they have been warned to refrain from participating in anti-social activities. However, the district election officers on their part have also issued instructions to the police authorities to take preventive measures for ensuring peace during the poll period. The process of rounding up the bad characters will start once the poll process begins, and it would also include keeping the separatist leaders of various hues under house arrest.
Those involved in violent activities, communal clashes, stone pelting, and links with terror groups will be either directed to leave the areas during the polls or they will be put behind bars, say sources. In addition, all license holders of weapons would be asked to deposit the same with the nearest police stations as the same can be used to pressurize the voters.
