Jammu, February 01: In order to make more money while, the officers working in the state police department were caught extending loan facilities to businessmen @ 24 percent per annum.
The matter came into limelight after a 50 years old resident of Jammu named Bal Krishan Gupta knocked the door of state High Court to sought its intervention for protecting his family from some cops from whom he had raised loan @ 24 percent per annum. Following this, the court has given directions to Commissioner Secretary Home, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu and SSP Jammu to take action against the erring cops under law.
This resident of Nanak Nagar aggrieved that he was offered loan by a Police Officer named Anita Chopra at an interest rate of 24 percent per annum and since he had dire need of money to run his business of Tour and Travel and he paid back the complete amount with interest, the cops started harassing him in order to extract more money from him.
He even alleged the policemen of using barging into his house and abusing and torturing his wife and two daughters.
On the other hand, the inspector has blamed the man for taking the advantage of their friendship to borrow 13 lakh and later refusing to repay it and making it a controversy instead. The inspector has also blamed that the Tour and Travel operator has also duped other police officers, including a Mumbai based woman.
“Earlier, the said man lodged a complaint with the IGP Jammu which was disposed off after proper investigation, adding, she had too knocked the door of court to get justice,” Inspector Anita said.
