J&K Skipper Parvez rasool gives yet another reminder to Indian selectors, shines out in Duleep Trophy

Srinagar—Jammu and Kashmir skipper Parvez Rasool gave yet another reminder to Indian selectors that he was very much in the reckoning, taking a five-wicket haul for India Green against star-studded India Blue on the first day of their Duleep Trophy fixture played at Green Park, Kanpur.

Playing his first high profile game after his T-20 international debut game against England early this year, Parvez wove his magic with his classic off-spinners and changes in pace to have a profitable returns of 5 for 70 in his 17 overs. On a spin friendly track, Parvez bamboozled the likes of Suresh Raina and Manoj Tiwary to make an impression and announce his intentions in the buildup to upcoming Ranji Trophy.

Parvez’s first victim was star batsman and skipper India Blue Suresh Raina before accounting for talented Deepak Hooda. He then accounted for Bhargav Bhat and Jaydev Unadket before getting the big in the form of Manoj Tiwary to complete his five-fer. He was instrumental in limiting India Blue to 177 allout.

With the rise of Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadaw and Karan Sharma, Parvez had fallen behind in the pecking order. Chewing gum controversy during national anthem at the start of India-England game didn’t help his cause either. He was further hit hard by the IPL snub with his employers Royal Challengers Bengluru releasing him. He didn’t find any buyers in the subsequent IPL auction putting a huge question mark on his bid to add to international caps. In his bid to revive his form and utility, he went to Bangladesh to play for a local club. Though he had a profitable stint both with the bat and ball in Bangladesh, it didn’t have any impact on Indian national selectors.

With this five wicket haul, Parvez would hope more and more wickets to press for his inclusion in the senior side. At the minute, it looks a distant dream, though.
