Dr Monisha Kapoor: A brief profile
Dr Monisha Kapoor is an artist who wanted to practice on human beings. Born and brought up in Jammu, she is a plastic surgeon presently working as a senior consultant with Adiva Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery Institute. For her growing up in the city of temples was a lot of fun but studying to become a doctor at Government Medical College in Jammu, and later in UK required a lot of hard work.
Kapoor emphasizes on the importance of hard work, and feels that burning the midnight oil is the only way to achieve success, and if someone decides their goals, than they should start working to achieve them. To get successful, she feels needs focus, determination and a spirited effort. Kapoor says she was lucky to have a family that supported her endeavors, and provided her with necessary resources.
On the importance of aesthetic surgery, she says that women across the country are looking to improve their looks, and this is same in Jammu as well. In Jammu she gets busy as a large number of patients comes for advice, and procedures. Kapoor topped the state pre-medical examination in 1996, and joined the Government Medical College where she did her MBBS. She cleared her PLAB examination (licence examination in United Kingdom). She completed her M.S (Master in Surgery) in 2005 and cleared her superspecialization in burn, plastic and maxillo facial surgery from Safdarjung Hospital New Delhi in 2008.
In United Kingdom, she worked as a resident in the university hospital for one year before settling down in India. She did her masters in general surgery and during these years she was exposed enormously to plastic surgery procedures as she was attached to plastic surgery unit during her residency in general surgery.
