Srinagar, Sept 22: The Jammu and Kashmir police apprehended two terrorists Banihal on Friday. If reports are to be believed, both are responsible for recent Banihal attack on SSB jawans.
At least one jawan was martyred and another injured after terrorists attacked a camp of Sashatra Seema Bal (SSB) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district on Wednesday.
The two apprehended terrorists have been identified as Arif and Ghazanfar and weapons have been recovered from them.
Two service rifles, including an AK assault rifle and an INSAS rifle, which were snatched during the attack, have been from their possession.
A manhunt has been launched to arrest the third accomplice, who is at large.
The police officer said that the arrested persons are locals and were missing from their house, adding that “they had joined a terrorist outfit.
The attack was carried out at around 8 pm on Wednesday and was targeted against the 14th battalion of SSB, posted in Banihal town of Ramban. The SSB party was charged to guard the strategic Banihal tunnel, the 8.45-km stretch which connects Ramban to Qazigund, claims a report.
According to a report, the deceased jawan was identified as head constable of the SSB. Another jawan, who was seriously injured, was rushed to the Ramban district hospital for treatment.
The terrorist attack comes in the backdrop of a series of successful operations launched by the security forces against the insurgency in the Valley.
This year, a total of 147 terrorists have been killed in Kashmir. The most recent target was Lashkar-e-Taiba’s Abu Ismail, who masterminded the attack on Amarnath pilgrims in July this year. Meanwhile, in 2016, a total of 110 militants were killed between January-September.
