Jammu, Aug 07: Commissioner, JMC Sh. Saujanya Sharma (K.A.S), along with the team of Officers/Officials comprising of Joint Commissioner (W), Sh. Tushar Chand, Executive Engineers, Health Officer, Chief Transport Officer and other filed staff from the Corporation visited in the areas of Nanak Nagar, Gangyal, Gandhi Nagar, Trikuta Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Jewel, Durga Nahar etc.
During the tour Deputy Commissioner, Jammu & Commissioner, JMC met with various sections of the people who were badly affected due to heavy rain. During the drive they visited nallahs of Shastri Nagar & Nanak Nagar along with people as well as staff members and found that small bridges (Pulli) were constructed over the nallahs due to which waste material dumps below the Bridges(Pulli) and obstructs the free flow of water as well as nallahs filled with garbage material/building material/polythene bags and choked due to which water finding no catchment drains and gets accumulated into the residential colonies/roads and valuable items of the locals destroyed due to the same. The concerned Officer was directed on spot by the Municipal Commissioner to look into the matter and immediately deploy both men and machinery for clearance of affected nallahs for the smooth flow of rain water and for redressal of grievances of the local people.
Later, Chief Transport Officer alongwith field staff visited the nallah at Gangyal and observed that nallah was diverted by one local inhabitant, on the direction of Deputy Commissioner, Jammu Chief Transport Officer de-silt the piece of land on which nallah was diverted for free flow and actual alignment of nallah. Encroachment alongside the nallah by local inhabitants by raising RCC walls which is main cause of blockage/choking of nallahs in Shastri Nagar & Nanak Nagar area were removed on spot by Chief Transport Officer.
Further, Commissioner, JMC assured the local inhabitants that matter will be looked on priority to mitigate the suffering of the residents and JMC will put every possible effort to mitigate their sufferings. He also deployed 8 to 10 excavators and tippers in these areas for immediate clearance and de-silting of nallahs and he on spot directed the concerned to arrange the additional men & machinery if required so that work may not suffer.
The Commissioner, JMC once again appealed all the general public not to encroach the nallahs and don’t throw any garbage/building material as well as polythene bags in nallahs and don’t divert the nallahs from its actual alignment as the same is the main cause of choking of nallahs and it is our duty to clean our surroundings and further assured that JMC will put every possible effort for minimizing the problems of general public.
