SRINAGAR, AUGUST 04:  Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Power, Industries and Commerce, Mr. Mohammad Ashraf Mir has said that joint efforts are needed to save environment adding that afforestation is a key in this direction.

The Minister said this at a function organized by the Rural Development Department (RDD) at Government High School (GHS), Zewan.

The Minister said that hazardous impact of pollution on environment is increasing day by day adding that need of the hour is to launch such programmes in the State so that the general masses are aware and can play their role to safeguard environment.

Mr. Mir said that people’s cooperation is must to make this mission a success. He said afforestration is must to make the environment clean and green and appealed people to undertake plantation drive in their areas.

Referring to the developmental of Khanmoh block, the Minister said that Rs. 3 crore would be spent on 180 works under MGNREGA during the current fiscal year. He said Rs. 15 lakh will be spent on development of playing field of Government High School Zewan.

The Minister said that more than 800 jobs cards have been issued in the block so far. He directed the concerned to survey the Sonwar constituency and identify the below poverty line families and prepare the lists and send to the concerned quarter for sanctioning of IAY.

He directed the officers of RDD to develop Panchayat Ghar, Khanmoh and proposed dumping site on modern line.

On the occasion, the students of the school presented cultural programmes.

Head Mistress of the institution, Block Development Officer, officers of Education, RDD, Health, ICDS officers besides a large number of students and prominent citizens of the area were present on the occasion.
