JU to introduce semester system at UG level through DDE from 2016-17

JAMMU November 16:  Prof. R. D. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu today chaired the Academic Council Meeting of the University of Jammu during which academic issues of the University and off-site campuses were discussed.

At the outset, Prof. Sharma welcomed the members of Academic Council and apprised them about the developments and achievements of University of Jammu. The meeting was attended by Prof. Poonam Dhawan, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Archana Kesar, Dean Research Studies, Deans of various faculties, Rectors/Directors of the Offsite campuses, Heads of the Departments, Conveners of Boards of Studies, Deans of University of Kashmir namely Prof Nisar A. Rather, Dean Faculty of Physical and Material Science, Prof. Khurshid A. Bhat, Dean Faculty of Commerce and Management studies, Prof. Rukaya, Dean Oriental Learning, Prof. Mohammad Ayoub Dhar, Dean Faculty of Law, Prof. N. A. Shah, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Mehmood Ahmad Khan, Dean Faculty of Education, Prof. G. M. Bhat, Dean Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Ashraf Wani, Dean Faculty of Music and Fine Arts,College Principals and other officials.

Prof. Keshav Sharma, Registrar, University of Jammu presented the agenda items.


During the meeting, threadbare discussions were held on various issues of academic importance. Total of 54 agenda items were discussed along with the action taken report on the resolutions of the last Academic Council.


The Academic Council endorsed the Statutes governing Lateral Entry System for granting admission to the Diploma holders (3 years in Engg.) and B. Sc Degree (Non-Medical) holders directly in 3rd Semester of the B. E. Degree Course in the Engineering Colleges/ Departments affiliated to the University of Jammu.

The Academic Council endorsed the Statutes and  Scheme  for the B.P.Ed and M. P. Ed Courses as per the recommendations of Justice Verma Commission and NCTE.


The Council also endorsed the MOU entered between Phreah Sihanouk Raja Buddhist University, Cambodia and the University of Jammu.

Decision to allow candidates to answer the questions either in Hindi or English in the B.Ed examination and the setting of the question papers containing questions both in Hindi as well as English was also endorsed during the meeting.

The Council also confirmed the introduction of BBA and B. Com (Honours) Courses in the Bhaderwah Campus from the academic session 2015-16.

Rotation of Convenership, Board of Studies amongst the Professors was also endorsed.

Adoption of Semester system in various programmes offered by the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) from the academic session, 2016-17 was also endorsed.

Proposal regarding creation of a post of Dean, Planning and Development was accepted in Principle for further deliberations.

Among these, various other important issues were also discussed in the Academic Council.
