Junaid Mattu is Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation


Former National Conference leader Junaid Mattu on Tuesday won the elections held for the post of Mayor, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) with support of Peoples Conference, BJP.

“Junaid of PC got 40 votes,Congress candidate got 26 while 4 votes were declared invalid,” sources said.

Sources said that Saleem lone, an independent, has been elected deputy mayor.

Mattoo was a Mayoral candidate of Sajad Lone’s People’s Conference. He defeated Congress’s Bashir Hajam.


An official said that Mattu polled 40 out of total 74 votes.

The voting for the post was held at SMC office in Karan Nagar area of the city today.

Mattu was the former spokesman of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference.

Upset over the decision of Boycott ULB Polls by NC,  Matto resign from Party and Fought the municipal elections independently.

He won from Solina in Srinagar and soon got support of his former chairman Sajjad Lone.
