Kashmir: Two CRPF jawans killed as vehicle loses control due to stone-pelting


Srinagar: Two CRPF personnel were killed after stone-pelters allegedly caused a paramilitary vehicle to crash at Hiller Kokernag in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday evening.

The incident took place around 6.50 pm, while CRPF personnel were withdrawing from law-and-order duty in the area.

“It is learnt that the driver was hit by a stone pelted by a miscreant, due to which he lost control of the vehicle. This resulted in the death of two CRPF jawans and injury to another. An FIR has been registered into the incident, and an investigation is on,” a police statement read.

The driver of the armoured vehicle was pelted with stones during the withdrawal operation in the evening, police said.  Amid the stone pelting, he lost control of the vehicle and hit the motorcycle on which the two CRPF jawans, identified as Riyaz Ahmed Wani and Nissar Ahmed Wani, were riding. The duo was rushed to a local hospital but was declared brought dead, PTI said

Meanwhile, the driver, identified as  Roop Singh, also suffered head injuries and was rushed to an Army hospital in Srinagar, the news agency reported. Post the incident, security forces rushed reinforcement to the spot to maintain law and order in the area, officials said.

As per sources, the local police has presented a different version of the incident, as they did not mention the stone-pelting attack in their report and pinned the blame on the driver for losing control of the vehicle.
