Kashmir Flood Effected Victims Demand Long Pending Relief

Srinagar: A protest demonstration was organised by Kashmir Flood Victims Welfare Forum at Press Colony Lalchowk Srinagar where a large number of flood affected people and traders participated. The protesters were shouting slogans against State and Central Govt. for their failure to accommodate flood victims even after the gap of seven months. Protesters complain that both State and Centre turned deaf ear towards the issue. The State Govt. didn’t actively pursue the relief package and Centre did not show any seriousness as shown towards Utarakhand flood victims.

The so far relief provided to the affected families and business sector did not satisfy anybody even the administration itself. Flood relief cheques viz Rs.3800/- & Rs.12000/- did not meet the labour cost of cleaning flooded houses and business establishments. It is high time for both the Governments to reach out to the affected families and traders with appropriate financial assistance.

The Forum suggested the concerned authorities to show sincerity and seriousness towards flood victims, before they will take streets for relief and rehabilitation. The participants have given ultimatum to the Govt. to redress their grievances within short period of time.
