Chairman Houseboat Owners Association (HBOA), appealed the government to provide relief to owner of the houseboat. He said reconstruction of a deluxe houseboat would cost around Rs 3 crore.
“Houseboats are heritage properties major attraction of tourists from around the world. Ironically, the successive regimes have failed to take measures for preservation of houseboats. We had several times urged the authorities to keep special fire-tender motorboats in Dal lake, but no action was taken. For hundreds of houseboats, the Fire Service department has just one boat which is also not functional,” said the victim.
“We make a fervent appeal to Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, to look into the matter and direct the concerned officers to take measures for saving our houseboats,” he said.
He also demanded subsidized timber and relief to the affected houseboat owners on priority basis.
