Setting an another example of communal harmony , people belonging to the Muslim community, performed the last rites of a Pandit woman, in Tral sub division of Pulwama district in South Kashmir on Tuesday.
A Pandit woman Neelam Pandita, 35 , died due to cardiac arrest during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, according to the family sources.
As the news about her death spread in the nearby areas , hundreds of Muslims both men and women rushed to the house of the deceased woman to express condolences with the bereaved family. All the shops in the area closed to mourn her death.
“The Muslim men participated in all the last rites of the Pandit woman. They took her body to the cremation ground and helped the family arrange for everything required to perform her last rites as per Hindu rituals. Muslim women were also seen consoling the wailing females of the family and relatives,” Senior Citizen Mr Farooq Trali told Brighter Kashmir.
“Tral has always been an example of communal brotherhood even in the difficult times,” said another local Sheikh Javid Ahmad.
Meanwhile , Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Mr Ghulam Mohammad Dar also visited the house of deceased Pandit woman and expressed condolences and sympathies with the bereaved family.
On the occasion, he assured them of all possible assistance. He was accompanied by other officials of Sub division.
