SRINAGAR: According to the local daily JandK Now, Four students, all natives of Kashmir, were detained by police in Rajasthan after they were attacked by an unruly mob for allegedly consuming beef inside their hostel room on Monday evening. Possession of beef is prohibited by law in Rajasthan.
According to a Srinagar-based news agency, the students at Mewar University claimed that a mob ransacked their room and pelted stones at them.
“They also abused us and threatened us for allegedly eating beef. We somehow hid ourselves in a room and saved ourselves from the unruly mob,” reported one of the kashmiri student.
Local police was reportedly called on the spot to bring the situation under control. However, the police detained four Kashmiri students. SHO, Gangrar, Labhu Ram, said that the police team rushed to the university hostel and brought the situation under control.
He claimed to have started an investigation into the case and sent a sample of meat for laboratory examination. “If the offence of consuming beef is proven, then we will file a case and action will be initiated accordingly,” he said.
The Kashmiri students at the University, meanwhile, said they feared for their lives. “We fear that we may be attacked again by the mobsters.
