Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh said here today that the upcoming Kathua Biotech Park will be a game-changer, particularly for youth, who will find new avenues of research, livelihood and employment.
Dr Jitendra Singh made these observations after receiving a detailed briefing on the current status and progress of work on the Biotech Park from Manohar Kumar, Chairman, National Project Construction Corporation (NPCC), the national agency which has been assigned construction and setting up of North India’s first Industrial Biotech Park (IBTP) at Gatti near Kathua.
He said, even though the upcoming Industrial Biotech Park is located in Kathua, it will, however, cater to the entire region including the surrounding parts of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
Further, Dr Jitendra Singh directed the NPCC authorities to expedite the process of setting up of Biotech Park and try to complete the work before the stipulated timeline.
Pertinent to mention that the Biotech Park at Kathua was approved by the Union Ministry of Science & Technology at the initiative of Dr Jitendra Singh and the process of establishing it at Kathua is being overseen by Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) through the Indian Institute of Integrated Medicine (IIIM), Jammu, while NPCC has been allocated the work to set up this project.
While the total cost of the project is estimated to be Rs. 44.03 crore, the Biotech Park complex will be spread over an area of 10.50 acre and the expected timeline fixed for its completion is two years.
In his update presentation to the Minister, Chairman NPCC informed that the site survey as well as the geo-technical survey at the location has been completed and the requisite soil testing reports have also been submitted.
Further, he stated that the architects / consultants are expected to submit their report any time now, following which the further work will be carried out.
