JAMMU: Police on Wednesday resorted to cane charging on the students who were protesting at Jammu University seeking a high level probe into the killing of RSS functionary Chanderkant and his PSO in Kishtwar.

Several students sustained injuries in the Police action while a few ABVP activists, who were leading the protest demonstration, were arrested.

The trouble erupted when a number of University students, led by ABVP activists, boycotted their classes and held a demonstration on the campus to register their protest against the killing of RSS functionary Chanderkant and his PSO.

Shouting slogans, the protesting students were demanding a high level probe into the Kishtwar killings. As the protesting students marched towards the University main gate, the Policemen prevented them from coming on road stating that there was movement of election buses.

Even as the protesting students maintained that they would not disrupt movement of election buses, Police did not allow them to come outside the main gate.
