Kranti Dal stages protest; demands slashing of passenger fare
Picture by SandeepA protest was held against the Transport Department by Kranti Dal activists asking them to immediately reduce the passenger fare as the prices of diesel had been slashed by the Central Government.
The protest was led by the State President Pritam Sharma and the activists assembled in Indira Chowk Jammu to raise slogans against the Transport Department. The President said that despite a considerable fall in petrol and diesel prices in the past three months the authorities have not cared enough to reduce the passenger fair. He further added that when the prices go up, the transporters come out in no minute to request for a hike in the fare but now that the prices have got down nobody from the association has demanded about the reduction of passenger’s fare.
He expressed that the unjust charges are just means to loot the public who travel daily by public transport. The authorities should immediately issue a new rate list for the passenger fair. The President further said that the Commissioner Secretary Transport department should make strict directions to the Department to stop the transporters fleecing the passengers. If the prices are not slashed soon, we might intensify our protest, he claimed.
