Lack of Intellectual Capital in Jammu forces installation of another non-local VC

Jammu, March 17: Following the dismal performance shown by the local people at high positions, another non-local has been appointed as the as the Vice-Chancellor of prestigious Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra.

The new VC of SMVDU, Prof Sanjeev Jain is the Director of Madhav Institute of Technology and Science, Gwalior (MP).

It is a second similar incident. In October last year , the Governor, N N Vohra’s administration had appointed a non-local man who was previously working as the Dean Faculty of Agricultural Sciences in the Aligarh Muslim University, Prof Javed Musarrat as the new Vice Chancellor of the Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University in Rajouri.

The reports said that a panel of members from various Search Committees headed by Dr R Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India with Prof M C Misra, Director, All India Institute of Medical Sciences; Prof D P Agrawal, Former Chairman, Union Public Service Commission; and Dr S S Bloeria, Former Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu have selected Prof Jain for this position.

The decision to appoint a non-local Vice Chancellors was taken by Governor of the state who is disappointed with the dismal performance of local Vice-Chancellors handling Jammu Division universities.

“The poor performance of Vice Chancellor of a university in Jammu region has perhaps shaken the faith of Governor on local professors hence he preferred non-local candidates,” said one of the Professors of Jammu University who was also among the candidates for VC post in SMVDU as quoted by a local daily here.
