Batote, December 03: A lady who was working as casual sweeper in the Municipal Committee, Banihal was found dead in the premises of the Municipal Committee (MC) office on Wednesday afternoon.
The woman had committed suicide out of stress. She was Identified as Nagina Bano, a resident of Banihal. She was upset because she had not received her salary for the last two months which she needed for the treatment of her Husband, Ghulam Nabi. Pertinently, Ghulam has been bedridden for the last many years due to a serious illness.
The reports also said that the woman who wanted her salary to be released as soon as possible had also threatened the MC officials that she would commit suicide on the office premises. The woman is survived by a sick husband and two nubile daughters.
According to one of her daughters Sopia, the deceased woman had had a heated argument with an Municipal Committee employee, Muneer Peer, over the issue of salary on the same morning.
The daughter alleges that her mother was pushed and manhandled by that employee, yet some MC employees suspect that she might have consumed poison.
Some of the close aides of Nagina also held a protest demonstration against the accused Municipal Committee employees. They blocked traffic on the NH-44 for about half an hour and demanded action to be taken against the accused. They were pacified after the visit of Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Banihal, Farooq Ahmed Quazi, and Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Banihal, Mohammad Rafiq Khan who assured them of registration of a case against the accused Municipal Committee employees and a discreet inquiry.
According to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, a case has been registered and an inquest proceeding initiated under Section 174 of the CrPC at the Banihal police station in this regard.
