KATHUA, AUGUST 25- Taking proactive and prompt action of the reports of landslide in Morha Kalana of Panchayat Dhannu-Parole in tehsil Billawar, District Development Commissioner Kathua Ramesh Kumar dispatched a team headed by SDM Billawar alongwith other field functionaries to shift the families from the hamlet without any delay to ensure no loss of human life.
The team also comprising Tehsildar Billawar Vishwajeet Singh reached the spot and shifted all 19 families out of which 7 families who are in high risk zone of landsliding were shifted to safer places.
As soon as the reports of landslide activity in the area came to the notice of the administration, the district and Sub-Division administration acted swiftly and mobilized the men and machinery timely and people were shifted to safer places.
Meanwhile District administration dispatched a team with Seven Tents from Red Cross Kathua unit which were later distributed among the families by SDM Billawar in Dhanu-Parole.
SDM Billawar R.S Charak informed that the precautionary action of shifting people was made after the reports of landslide activity by the locals. He said so far the activity is slow but from past experiences of landslide in the area the decision of shifting has been made.
While interacting with families, SDM advised them to refrain from going to the landslide prone and other high risk areas. He also appealed people of the area to adhere to the advisory till it is declared safe. He assured them that district and tehsil administration is keeping a close watch on the situation and to provide all possible help to the victims.
