Srinagar, May 27: In pursuance of the directions of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, the Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) today launched a demolition drive in Nishat area and removed several illegal structures there.
The demolition drive was led by Dy SP, Suhail Rashid, who is also the Enforcement Officer of LAWDA.
According to LAWDA authorities, a concrete structure at Ishber which had come up illegally in the non-permissible area in clear violation of the Master Plan and High Court directions, was demolished during the anti-encroachment drive.
The LAWDA team also demolished three shops at Laam, Nishat which had been constructed in non-permissible area.
LAWDA authorities said that during the latest intensified anti-encroachment drive launched in and around Dal Lake, several tippers, load carriers and other vehicles, transporting construction material illegally, were seized and cases registered by the Enforcement Wing of the Authority against the violators.
They said legal action was also initiated against the owners of houses and other structures which have come up in violation of the Master Plan in and around the Lake.
