SRINAGAR, JUNE 27: Prompted by a public complaint lodged against marble store namely New Rajasthan Marbles, by-pass Chanapora for supplying him the wall-tiles in packaged form which were not of uniform size, the Dy. Controller (enforcement) Legal Metrology Kashmir deputed his team on the spot to seize the defective packages of tiles. The inspector, Legal Metrology circle –I Srinagar booked the trader as well as the manufacturer for not carrying the mandatory declarations on the tile packages. The tile package must carry the size of tiles, MRP, name and address of the manufacturer with consumer cell number and e-mail address and also date of manufacture. The retailer produced the bill of the manufacturer (Rajasthan based). The customer has been charged Rs 40 per sq. unit for the tiles where as the supply rate carrying the bill of manufacturer is Rs 6 only per sq. unit.
In absence of the MRP printed on the label, the retailer has taken undue advantage of charging exorbitantly. The retailer was penalized by slapping a fine of Rs 5000/=. The manufacturer shall also be penalized after getting the complete address and other details from the controller, Legal Metrology, Rajasthan.
