Jammu : A major disaster was averted in the Government School Domana, where a live bomb was found in the campus and the armed forces were called promptly. The 25 Punjab Unit, which reached the school campus immediately, took over the explosive and diffused it at a desolated location.
As per the information received, the schools re-opened on Monday after the long summer break. Falling under the Bhalwal Zone, Government Middle School, Chandiya in Domana, resumed classes from Monday on wards.
Before the day got over, the students found the bomb lying in the play ground and they informed the Headmaster immediately. The Headmaster in turn informed the Sarpanch of the area and informed the Police as well as the Army. The security forces reached the spot and seized the bomb. The Army personnel revealed that the bomb was part of an old mortar shell.
A few days ago, in order to level the school ground, mud and sand was brought in from the adjoining river and canals. It has been speculated that the mortar must have been carried in with the debris.
