LMD books 474 traders, realizes Rs. 2.60 lakh as fine

SRINAGAR JULY 16: For protecting the interests of general public of Kashmir in the holy month of Ramadan, the Legal Metrology Department (LMD) under the supervision of Deputy Controller Enforcement has conducted intensive checking of the commercial establishments dealing with Kiryana, Meat, Poultry, Bakery and other eatables in whole Kashmir Province.
The market checking teams of LMD have booked 474 traders for violating the provisions of J&K Weights and Measures (Enf.) Act, 1997. Out of 474 challans, 446 have been compounded on spot. The authorities have recovered a composition of Rs. 2.60 lakhs from the erring traders.
The department has appealed to the trading organizations to work in the interest of general public and cooperate with the departmental market checking teams.
