LMD directs Wave mall management to desist from charging parking fee

JAMMU: Acting on the complaints from consumers that management of Wave mall is in practice of charging money on pretext of parking charges of vehicle from customers visiting premises of mall for purchase, Deputy Controller Consumer Protection, Department of Legal Metrology served a notice to the management under the J&K Consumers Protection Act 1987.

Pertinently, every commercial building is mandated to have a parking space based on build up area and collecting parking charges from customer is an unfair trade practice and a restrictive trade practice as well.

The management has been asked to stop charging parking fee and desist from adopting restrictive trade practice of providing service to the potential customer as a condition precedent for availing services as it is contrary to the provisions established for the protection of the consumer rights.
