LoC Locals refuse to bury foreign militants; govt identifies new site

Srinagar, March 17: A new burial ground for slain foreign militants has been identified in the outskirts of Baramulla Districts  by the authorities.

As per reports in The Tribune, the land has been identified in the wake of consistent refusal by the residents of the villages living close to the Line of Control (LoC) to bury the slain militants from across the border. The ground is located in Sheeri at a distance of 60 km from LOC. The area is an isolated spot with no civil population and there is a police station nearby.

After the completion of legal formalities, five foreign militants killed in two gunfights in south Kashmir have been buried at the new graveyard in Sheeri since recent times.

A senior officer said that the residents of several villages in Boniyaar have refused to bury foreign militants with a claim that it could influence and radicalize their children and that is why police has identified a new patch of land for burial. They did not allow the burial of three militants who were killed in in the Entrepreneurship Development Institute at Pampore on February 22. They were then buried in the new ground.
