Srinagar, January 29: It was this full-page advertisement in a newspaper about mylocalbaniya.com which inspired 23 years Aqib Shah to leave the job of a relationship officer in the office of American Express in Delhi and return back to his home town in Kashmir to set up an online store here.
According to Aqib, Kashmir has a huge potential for online business and that’s why he left the job and shifted to Srinagar to launch Stop Shop, the one-stop destination for all shopping needs. Aqib started the online store with an office in an area of 200 sq ft and three employees but now it has grown to a bigger office and double the number of employees.
Stop shop claims of delivering goods in Srinagar district within 45 minutes.
Besides Aqib, there are now more than a dozen startup entrepreneurs in Kashmir selling goods online. Almost all of them have set up their offices and hired people for running the online business.
Aqib Shah said that people now a days don’t have time and energy to drive all the way to a grocery store, find a parking spot, hunt for all the items on the shopping list, wait in the queue, carry heavy bags to the car, and reach home looking tired and worn out and we are giving them an alternate of sitting comfortably at home or office and ordering everything, selecting the delivery time and location and receiving your grocery without any trouble,
Another online store mysauda.com is dealing with grocery items not only in Srinagar, but also in Baramulla town of north Kashmir. As per its owner, Tauseef, “The online entrepreneur is going to last longer. We have a huge internet user base in Kashmir, so there is a huge potential for online business.”
