Madhav-Mehbooba meeting: Discussion on AFSPA and other Insider inputs

Srinagar, February 18:  It appears not that the Political deadlock prevailing in the state is going to be broken very soon as the most awaited meeting between the general secretary of Bhartiya Janta Party, Ram Madhav and the president of People’s Democratic Party, Mehbooba Mufti finally happened last evening at her Fairview residence in Srinagar.

It was the first meeting between these senior leaders of both the parties after the death of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on January 7. Earlier, Ram Madhav had met Mehbooba a day after her father’s death but nothing political was discussed in that meeting.

Last evening, the one-on-one meeting between Mehbooba and Madhav started at around 6.30 pm and it lasted for over an hour. Though no statement was made by the spokesperson of both the parties after the conclusion of the meeting but reliable source said that the meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere and Mehbooba put her views on relaunching the PDP-BJP government in the state.

The sources also said that an important decision has been made in the meeting and it will be announced after Ram Madhav briefs the BJP high command about the outcome of meeting.

The visit of Ram Madhav to Srinagar was kept confidential and it even came as surprise to state BJP leaders. He arrived in a special chartered plane around 6 pm, drove straight to the residence of Mehbooba and then left at 7.37 pm for Delhi.

Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and leader of National Conference wrote this on Twitter last evening “Unscheduled flight VTJSG just landed in Srinagar after normal operation hours. Something is cooking with the PDP-BJP government formation.”

The BJP is not expected to remove AFSPA from the state in an attempt to remove the deadlock over government formation in the state. Sources have said that the national party is mulling to return atleast one power project in the state but no confirmed decision has been taken so far.
