Wasim Rizvi, chairman of the Shia Central Waqf Board, on Tuesday made a pitch for modernisation of the madrasas, saying some of them have even produced terrorists.
“How many madrasas have produced engineers, doctors, IAS officers?” Rizvi asked, as per ANI.
“Yes, but some madrasas have produced terrorists,” he added, stressing on the need to modernise them.
He further said that the Islamic schools must be “affiliated to CBSE, ICSE etc and allow non-Muslim students”.
Religious education should be made optional, the Shia leader said, adding he has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in this regard.
“It will make our country even stronger,” he said, expressing his views.
Reacting to Rizvi’s remarks, Hyderabad MP and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi slammed the Shia Waqf Board chief and called him a joker.
“Wasim Rizvi is the biggest joker, the most opportunistic person. He has sold his soul to the RSS.
I challenge this buffoon to show one Shia or Sunni or madrasa where such teachings are imparted. If he has proof then he should go and show it to the Home Minister,” Owaisi said.
