Security forces averted a major tragedy when they detected and defused a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by militants in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Tuesday, official sources said.
They said a security force patrol party detected an IED planted by militants in the link road at Kanjinag, Awantipora, a midst construction stones in Pulwama this morning.
The Bomb Disposal Squad was immediately called in who later defused the device without causing any damage.
However, the road was closed and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) summoned, they said, adding that the IED was defused without causing any damage.
Had it not been detected and defused, it would have caused major damage to life and property as the road remained busy during the day.
The officer said that the IED detected has been locally made and it has been established that urea has been used in making the explosive device.
