Man chokes wife, throws body off cliff at Vaishno Devi
Jammu, June 15: A couple who were enroute Vaishno Devi Bhawan have become the centre of controversy after the wife was ‘allegedly’ choked to death by the husband and then her body was thrown off in the hills making it look like an accident, district police told media persons yesterday.
What is more astounding is that the couple had got married on March 10 this year.
The body of the woman was found in a water stream enroute the Bhawan and she was identified as Lakshmi Gupta (25), a resident of New Delhi according to the police statement.
Shakti Gupta, the husband of the deceased, had filed a missing report at Ardh Kuwari. The police became suspicious of the husband’s hand in the deed and interrogated him, the officer added.
“We contacted the parents of the deceased and they confirmed a situation of dispute between the husband and wife. This suspicion arose after Shakti Gupta’s statement did not make any sense,” said the officer.
During the course of interrogation, Shakti Gupta confessed to having committing the crime. Shakti Gupta had choked his wife at night and in the darkness pushed her body down into the hills near Lambikeri area, the officer added.
The investigation is on to further determine the cause behind the murder.
