Manhunt launched for cop-turned-militant decamped with four AK-47s
Anantnag, January 21: The constable, Shakoor Parray who according to news reports was a thief, an informer, a policeman and now a militant is now on the search radar of security forces in the valley.
A resident of Shopian district, Parray was deputed as the security guard to the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Irshad Rather who was injured in a militant attack last month and is being treated at Srinagar hospital.
Parray was again in news two days back for running away with four AK-47 rifles stolen from DSP’s official residence at Bijbehara and joining the militant ranks.
The reports of a local daily have said that two of his other friends from his native Kundalan village were also with Shakoor Parray and have joined the outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba.
Now, a manhunt has been carried out to nab Parray along with his associates in parts of Bijbehara town but no success has been achieved so far.
The news reports also suggest that Shakoor had resorted to burglary in his early age and in 2012, he was also arrested at the Imam-Sahib police station in Shopian. where he came in the contact of DSP Irshad Rather.
In 2014, Parray helped DSP Irshad Rather in his operation that resulted in the arrest of a top Lashkar commander from Pakistan, Abu Hanzala after which he was inducted into police force as a reward. He was inducted as a personal security officer (PSO) and remained posted with Irshad Rather. In 2015, the duo launched an encounter in the Yaripora area of Kulgam, wherein top LeT commander Ayatullah Bhat, alias Khoumaini, alias Maaz, was killed.
Following this, Parray was promoted to the rank of a constable and when Rather got transferred to Bijbehara , Parray accompanied him.
