Martyr Nisar Ahmad of Sopore (Shopian Killings)

Srinagar 7 April 2015: April 6 was a black day in the lives of the three martyred policeman and their families. The person in this image is Martyred Constable Nisar Ahmad of Sopore, who along with the other two cops – head constable Mushtaq Hussain of Adigam Pulwama and constable Shabir Ahmad of Leh – was returning unarmed from a local village after resolving a dispute there.

The Militants who were 3 to 5 in number were dressed in army uniforms and stopped the Tata Sumo in which the trio were travelling. The Militants asked all the passengers in the Sumo to de-board from the vehicle, separated the policemen, asked the rest of the passengers to board the vehicle again and shot at the unarmed cops dead as soon as the Tata Sumo moved.

Panic gripped the area resulting from the incident where people in and around this spot ran for safety.

A guard of honor was presented to slain cops following which their bodies were handed over to their families.

“The policemen were on local duty and on their way back to Shopian from Shamsipora, some militants stopped the vehicle they were travelling in, brought them down and shot them,” IGP Kashmir SMJ Gillani told media persons.
