Masked gunmen ransack houses of 2 cops in Shopian
The masked gunmen barged into the houses of two policemen in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday night and asked them to publicly announce from Masjids that all policemen should resign en-mass. Reports said that some masked gunmen at around 11:00 Pm broke into the house of a police constable at – Hajipora village and thrashed him.
“They also broke the window panes of his house and later asked the policeman to resign from his service and announce it publicly,” reports and police sources said.
They said that the cop was also directed to announce his decision to quit the job from the loudspeaker of a local Masjid. “He was also told to announce that all policemen should resign or be ready to face the consequences,” sources said.
The masked men also reportedly barged into house of another policeman at Meldoora village in the same district and ransacked his house. “The cop, however was not present in the house and his family members were told to convey the message to him that he should quit the job,” sources said.
The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Kashmir- SP Pani while talking to Greater Kashmir said, “Yes the militants barged into the houses of cops and harassed their families.” He said that the matter is being investigated.
Meanwhile, unidentified persons reportedly set ablaze a Panchayat Ghar in Banderpora village of Awantipora on Saturday night. The personnel of Fire and Emergency services were trying to douse the flames when this report was filed.
