A MBBS student died while another got injured in a road accident on the National Highway near Sakta Chak around noon on Tuesday. Both the students were going from Jammu to Kathua when the incident happened.
According to the people in the neighborhood, the mishap happened while the driver was trying to save a motorist. The ASCOMS Jammu students, Sadhvi Trikha(19), resident of Trikuta Nagar, and Gursheesh Singh, resident of ward number 14 Kathua, were on their way from Jammu to Kathua in the car bearing number PB06K 1660 when the accident happened.
Gursheesh was driving the car when the a motorbike rider out of nowhere came on the road trying to cross it. In order to save the rider, the speeding car soon got out of his control and smashed into the divider. After the collision, the car turned upside down. Sadhvi, who was sitting in the co-driver’s place, fell out of the car and died on spot.
Crowd gathered around, but the girl couldn’t be saved. With the help of the Highway Patrolling Party, the boy and the girl’s body were taken to the District Hospital Kathua.
The Police Station in charge S.S Johal told a local daily that the injured student was in no condition to give details regarding the accident and that a case has been registered and investigation has been started.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased was handed over the family to perform last rites after the postmortem.
