Srinagar, April 20: The administration in the Kashmir Division has ordered regulation of “news agencies” running on social media and asked their operators to obtain proper permission from the government for posting news.
The regulation has been ordered by Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Asgar Samoon, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir who directed the operators of social media news agencies to obtain proper permission from the Deputy Commissioners concerned for posting news on social media news groups along with sources, an official spokesman said.
However the administration has not clarified the qualifications for a group to be called a news agency on the social media. Samoon said action would be taken against the violators, who post anything without concerning to higher authority.
Samoon issued the directions at a meeting held on Monday to review the law and order situation in the Valley, which has remained tensed after the recent killing by army men.
The mobile Internet services were also shut down for nearly 48 hours to calm the situation.
The administrators of Whatsapp news groups have been directed to get registered within 10 days said the order issued by the District Magistrate, Kupwara.
The administration has claimed that the so called self designated news agency on social media like Facebook and Whatsapp are the reason for spreading the rumours which later becomes an Havoc.
The Divisional Commissioner has also asked state’s Information Department to involve media fraternity to help in monitoring of the news posted on the social media.
