Meet Lt. Cdr. Wahida from Jammu: First woman to command military parade of Armed forces

Surgeon LT CDR. WAHIDA PRIZM is hereby appointed as additional Indian Naval Ship Angre for HQWNC as SSO (Med)on promotion to the Rank of Surg. Capt. wef. Dec 16 DTBR.
Wahida Prizm hailing from Rajouri district of Jammu had earlier created history by becoming the first woman to command a military parade of the armed forces.
Surgeon Lt. commander Wahida Prizm was born on March 11, 1972 in village Thanna Mandi, Rajouri, Jammu. She was born in a middle class family. Her father Gulzar Ahmed was a headmaster of the government school and mother Hajra Kaser is still a school teacher. Wahida have 4 siblings, 2 sisters and 2 brothers. As scout guide, she was an active student leader throughout her school days.
She took admission in Jammu Medical College post schooling. When it came to making a career choice, she was influenced by what she had heard about the Navy. She wanted to make her career there.
Wahida was selected for the navy after an interview in Delhi. Two months later, on November 10, 1997, subsequent to an orientation in Lucknow, she was commissioned into the Navy.
In 2001, her father was gunned down by militants during school hours. Wahida credits her father for her success, for his guidance, to work hard to achieve their goals, to be self-independent and do well in life.
The parade officer is selected based on her previous year performance. Her achievement speaks loudly about her sincerity and commitment.
She appreciates her husband’s support and encouragement which is one of the factors of her success.
In 2005, she suffered much illness but roughly fought her way back to life.
