Srinagar: Women today have not failed to leave their mark in almost all the spheres with their male counterparts. In our state too, there are many such inspiring stories of outstanding women who have accomplished substantially.
A woman, rather a teenager from the Valley is making a huge difference by means of her game. 19-year-old Nadia Nighat is not just any sportsperson, in fact she happens to be the first Woman Football coach from the state, who trains both girls and boys.
A huge Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi fan, Nadia has named her Club “JJ7”, inspired by Ronaldo’s acronym for his name and the jersey number ‘CR7’. At first, Nadia was skeptical of tutoring boys, but with time, as more and more volunteers came up to her, she became more confident than ever.
Every evening she gives lessons on dribbling and tackling the ball. The enthusiasm with which she conducts her classes is worth watching. Even in the holy month of fasting, Ramadan, she never ditched her lessons.
She is trained as a player in the Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA) team. While the association has a reputation of producing talented footballers from the state, it is the first time that a woman footballer has made her mark.
Nadia, with the help of JKFA, has also enrolled for two coaching courses in order to teach herself the basics of the game. She also regularly visits the Government Women’s College in Srinagar where she conducts training sessions for girls.
