Thanks to Mehbooba Mufti-led government the picturesque Tosamaidan was officially thrown open for public on Sunday and is all set to charm the tourists in Kashmir.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti declared the meadow open for tourism activities with the inauguration of three-day Tosamaidan Festival.
State dignitaries such as Mr Saif-ud-Din Bhat, former MLA, DR Mohammad Shafi, Secretary Tourism, Mr Farooq Ahmad Shah, Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Mir Altaf Hussain, Director Tourism Kashmir, Mr Mehmood Ahmad Shah, SSP Budgam, Fayaz Ahmad Lone were all present at the occasion along with thousands of locals.
Activities like horse riding, trekking and mountaineering will be organized by the Tourism Department, during the 3-day Tosamaidan Festival.
Mehbooba stressed on bringing the Tosamaidan meadows under the tourism department as an independent and distinct resort without disturbing the surrounding and also announced a new Tourism Development Authority for Tosamaidan.
Tosamaidan has huge potential for adventure tourism and not only normal tour and picnic activities said Mehbooba. Adding, that winter and adventure tourism can take main lead in the area.
She also said that she would not allow the picturesque meadow to be turned into a concrete jungle like other tourist resorts in the State and has demanded for the immediate construction of all weather road to the meadows,
She also asked the officials of Forest Department to go for massive afforestation drive in the area with the help of Rural Development Department.
Tosamaidan was handed over to the state Govt in 2014 by the Army, who were using it for the artillery firing range.
Tosamaidan is not only famous as a pasture but also for its historical background as Mughals used to go to Poonch using this route.
