Mehbooba grieved over civilian deaths in LoC firing

Urges New Delhi, Islamabad to reinforce 2003 ceasefire agreement

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 15:  Condemning latest ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control (LoC) in Balakote sector of district Poonch, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President and Member Parliament, Ms Mehbooba Mufti has expressed shock and grief over the killing of three civilians in shelling from across the border.

Ms Mehbooba expressed heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved families and prayed for early recovery of the injured. She urged the Government to ensure adequate free medicare facilities for the injured.

In a statement issued here today, Ms Mehbooba urged the political leadership of the country and of Pakistan to play their role in permanently ending of ceasefire violations along the borders in Jammu and Kashmir as the same bring miseries for the people in the State. ‘’Both the countries must protect the lives of the innocent civilians on either side’’, she said and added the ceasefire mechanism put in place during 2003 needs to be reinforced to prevent further casualties.
