Srinagar, February 26: In the list of 100 most powerful persons in India of the 2016, the dynamic woman president of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has secured 14th position overall and 4th among women preceded by Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi at 5, Sushma Swaraj at 10 and Smriti Irani at 13. Mamta Banerjee was placed as the 15th most powerful person in India.
The list was released by Indian Express on Friday.
Mehbooba has been placed in the list for playing a big role in the development of People democratic Party founded by her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. Even after the death of her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, she has played her role very well. She did not rush to take oath as the first woman chief minister of J&K but is still trying to bargain with the top BJP leadership and the Government of India for a deal which benefits her state in the long run.
Despite walking on her father’s footsteps and forming an alliance with BJP, She is working with her own ideologies. She openly advocates talks with Kashmir separatists and Pakistan, said Indian Express.
The list comprises of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and number one. The Congress President Sonia Gandhi figures at No. 5 and the Chief Minister of Delhi at position 8 followed by Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi at number 9.
The Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad and recently sworn-in Chief Justice of India, T S Thakur who hails from Doda region of Jammu and Kashmir has also been featured in list at number 28 and 11.
While Sonia Gandhi, Sushma Swaraj and Smriti Irani are ahead of Mehbooba Mufti in the list, She is leading West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Rajasthan Chief Minister, Vasundhara Raje, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N Chandra Babu Naidu, BSP chief Mayawati and Priyanka Gandhi.
