Srinagar, January 08: After the sad demise of Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mufti Mohammad Sayeed , the president of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mehbooba Mufti is now all set to be sworn in as the first woman Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.
Legislators belonging to the PDP have written to Governor NN Vohra placing emphasis on the candidature of Mehbooba Mufti as the next candidate. The agreement has been made within the party for Mehbooba becoming the new Chief Minister of the state. Senior party leader and the spokesperson of Jammu and Kashmir Government Naeem Akhtar said that Mehbooba represents the aspirations of the cadre and is an undisputed leader.
Even though Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has described his daughter Mehbooba as a “grassroots leader”. He had said that she had made party consolidation possible in the state, particularly in the Kashmir valley.
Mehbooba now 57 years old, started her journey into state politics after she was first elected to the state Assembly in 1996 on a Congress ticket. She was the Congress candidate from Bijbehara in 1999 and PDP candidate from Pahalgam in 2002 and from Wachi in Shopian district in 2008. She was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2004 and 2014. Presently, she is MLA from Anantnag. She was first elected as MLA in 2004 and this is her second tenure.
Mehbooba has learnt the lessons on politics from her father Late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in the last two decades. As per the other senior leaders of the party, Mehbooba seems to be the right choice to be made the next Chief Minister of the state.
Members of state coalition BJP have also decided to go with Mehbooba as the next Chief Minister of State. The president of BJP, Amit Shah has talked to Mehbooba on Phone and has conveyed his condolences and has also said that the BJP high command has decided to go with the choice of her party for the CM’s post.
