Mehbooba Mufti started her address with memories that she associates with Katra to a huge applause

“I have very sweet memories of Katra. I used to come here as a student and used to go for trekking to Vaishno Devi with my friends.”

“It was nice to see today that most of the awardees here were girls. I was at the SKUAST University yesterday and over there as well, most of the awardees were girls. So, Congratulations to the girls!”

Mehbooba Mufti also congratulated the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi university for securing the prized position of being among the top 100 universities in India.

“At the outset, I must congratulate the authorities, the staff and the students, for securing a place in the top 100 universities in the country according to the university ranking framework released by the MHRD recently.”

“Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University as an institution was born out of a constant urge to see faith as a resource, a trust repository of the common people and it is no co-incidence that a University was established during my father’s time. The multi-cultural audience that such universities are open to, only reaffirm our belief that institutes are the melting-pot of cultures, ethnicities and ideas where people of all faiths and cultures converge and indulge in dialogue and inter-cultural interactions.”

“I am glad to see SMVD University come up as a role model for the institutes of excellence, leading the way in showing how religious endowments can be used for the larger good of the society. Even the hospital that the honourable Prime Minister inaugurated today was one of the examples.”

“Without any divisions of social class or creed, setting examples of inclusiveness and compassion for humanity lies in extending the light of education to all seeking it. We are in the middle of a Social, economic and technological change which requires urgent realignment from educational institutes. This involves changing the way we look at higher education as not only a certificate for employment and placement but as an enabler of thought process and idea incubator.”

Institutes of educational institutes likes SMVD have ahuge responsiblity in not to be just churning machines of certification but by being enormous change agents and playing key role in making this as a Social renaissance. What sort of future we will have depends on how these institutions of excellence influence the mindsets of our societies in general and prepare youth for challenges of future and I’m sure SMVDU is on the right path of this educational and social transformation. On this auspicious occasion of the fifth convocation of the university, I would like to congratulate the university all the graduates who have received the degrees and the ones who have retrieved the medals. Before I conclude, I wish this university success in the task that lies ahead in the years to come. I give my best wishes to the management and faculty of this university in their endevours. Lastly I would like to add one more saying, that is the Students who come from different parts of the country, we are taught that Atithi Devo Bhava. When they come, they come as guests but when they leave, they leave as our goodwill ambassadors. So I would request all here that lets make them feel like home, so that when they leave they talk about the hospitality they get from here, so that our students who are in Lakhs in other parts of the country get the same kind of treatment and this mixing of culture and religious diversity goes on and it symbolizes the real heart and soul of our country which is secularism, Bhaichara’.
