SRINAGAR: Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmad disbursed Rs. 1.21 crore among 121 shopkeepers, one lakh each, for their rehabilitation at a function here today. The shops had been acquired by the Government for widening of roads in Kangan market.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that widening of Vailoo-Sonamarg road had become imperative to ensure smooth traffic moment on this important road link connecting Kashmir Valley with Ladakh region besides decongesting Kangan market. He said the importance of the road has also been increased as it leads to famous tourist resort Sonamarg besides being used by devotees during annual Amarnathji yatra.
Mian Altaf asked traders to maintain cleanliness in and around the market to attract the tourists passing through this road. He said this on one hand will beautify the market place and on other hand improve the sales of the traders. Seeking cooperation from traders of Kangan market, the Minister said that traders have to play their role in beautifying and maintaining the area. He asked them to extend cooperation to the district administration in completing ongoing development projects coming up in the constituency.
Forest Minister said that Centre has approved Rs 4 crore for establishment of an indoor stadium in Kangan and will be constructed at Margund. He said since 1996 the Government did whatever was required and possible for the development of Kangan constituency, adding constructions of schools, colleges, upgradation of roads, creation of healthcare infrastructure have got focused attention during our regime.
