MIET Organizes Student Fest Sammilan 2K14

The sixth edition of SAMMILAN, 2014 the premier technical-cum-cultural student festival of J&K was organized at the Model Institute of Engineering and Technology. Prof. Desh Bandhu, Director Colleges Development Council, University of Jammu graced the occasion as Chief Guest and inaugurated the festival. The function was presided over by Dr. Arun K. Gupta, Chairman MIER Group of Institutions.

Prof. Ankur Gupta, Joint Director MIET delivered the welcome address and described Sammilan as proof of the caliber and potential of MIET students. He formally welcomed the Chief Guest, Sponsors, Faculty and Students from over 25 institutions across North India including from Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.

Dr. Arun K. Gupta in his address lauded Prof. Desh Bandhu for initiating large-scale reforms in the higher education sector and streamlining the operations of the Colleges Development Council. He placed on record the tremendous support from the University of Jammu to MIET and assured the Chief Guest that MIET shall continue to push the boundaries and meet the high expectations of the Unviersity and people of the Jammu region. He further highlighted the major achievements of MIET in the last few months including tie-ups with UMKC, USA, setting up Center for Mobile Application Development, launch of an analytics framework for quality management, setting up of IEEE Student Branch, filing of 8 patents and development of 2 products and several student achievements in sports and technical competitions at the national and international level.

Prof. Desh Bandhu in his address expressed his delight at visiting MIET and experiencing first-hand the rapid strides that MIET had made in academic and extra-curricular domains. He praised the MIET students in conceiving and executing a large festival such as Sammilan and described it as a great platform for showcasing technical and cultural talent of the student community. Prof. Desh Bandhu appreciated the MIET management for initiating several novel initiatives for the students and the faculty and expressed confidence that the progressive approach of MIET shall greatly benefit the students and the institute in times to come.

Other Dignitaries on the occasion were Dr. Renu Gupta, Director MIER Group, Dr. Adit Gupta, Joint Director, MIER, Prof. G.S Sambyal, Former Registrar, University of Jammu, Mr. Sachin Mahajan, Cluster Head, HDFC Bank, Mr. M. L Mir, Deputy General Manager, PNB among others.

The inaugural ceremony was kick-started by a rocking performance by the MIET music club and Under_Score the MIET Rock Band which was greatly appreciated by the audience. Anmol Jaswal the runner up at Indian Idol Junior 2013 was the star performer at the show and mesmerized the audience with his soulful performance.

Maj. Gen. (retd.) Prof. S.K Sharma Principal, MIET proposed the formal vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to all the stakeholders for making Sammilan 2K14 a grand success.

Later more than 2500 students participated in varied technical, literary and management related events throughout the day. As a lead up to the event workshops on Remote Controlled Plane designing and flying (AeroTrix), web-development, mobile application development and Electronics Systems Design and Modeling (IETE) workshops for over 500 students were conducted.

The second day of Sammilan shall be devoted to cultural items with the performance by EKA – the Band being the highlight. Other bands that shall perform shall be BloodLine (MIET) and Nissi along with DJ Riteish. Song and Dance competitions and the Fashion Show are expected to be other big draws on the second day.
